To the Man I Married,

06/26/14 | Family

Today marks three years since we started dating. It’s hard to believe both how quickly it has gone, and how much has happened in that time.

Here we are, married over a year and a half, mere weeks away from meeting our first child face-to-face – joys that fill us to bursting. We have faced depression, unemployment, bereavement – trials we never expected.

Through it all, good and bad, you have stood by me and loved me.

And I may be a writer, a lover of semantics, a literary nerd, but in the face of such love I have no words to describe how grateful I am to you and for you.

Song of Songs 3:4I’m sorry for the times I have not appreciated you or loved you as you deserve, for the impatience I have shown, the times I’ve hurt you, the opportunities I’ve missed to love and support you.

Marriage is difficult, but you make it easier. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in life.

So thank you.

For all that you do.

For sharing with me when it’s hardest. For cleaning the house when I am overwhelmed. For loving our child. For providing for us. For encouraging me to pray. For taking walks with me, knowing we share best when out of the house. For the hugs. For believing in me. For the little things. For putting God first, and loving Him more than me.

Thank you for your selflessness, your kindness, your forgiveness, your patience, your passion, your playfulness, your humility, your holiness, your sacrifice, your love.

Colossians 3:12-14I cannot believe how true this passage from Colossians rings in the day-to-day of marriage. I love you more and more with each passing day.

I think back three years ago and I cannot quite believe where we are now and all that we’ve been through together in such a short space of time.

And I cannot wait to see what the next three years, and beyond, bring for us.

Love,

Claire
