Today, I wanted to share with you a product I wasn’t actually originally intending to make, but I’m glad I did.
After my lip balm experiment went so amazingly well, I got excited. I started searching through my Pinterest board and through some favourite bloggers’ links to find more ideas about what I could do.
I hadn’t originally anticipated the small amount of products I bought going so far, so I had only planned the lip balm and a lotion (recipe to come) and thought I would see where things went from there. In my excitement (coupled with some intense nesting urges!), I suddenly found myself with half a dozen tabs open of things I was desperate to try out.
This one surprised me. I am not a hair spray user, and I never really have been. But my main objection to it has been the intense amount of chemicals found in it, and I liked the description for this all-natural one. This is not really a ‘fixing’ hair spray (I think the natural versions of that tend to use sugar rather than salt). What it does is give you the tousled ‘beach hair’ look. The one that somehow only salty air and lying on the sand seem to produce.
After chemotherapy, my hair grew back curly. Having always had naturally poker-straight hair, I was actually quite excited by this! My hair has since lost its ‘ringlet curls’ now that I’ve had a few haircuts and grown it out properly, and only retains a little wave. So I quite like having an all-natural product that brings back a little more tousle and body to my hair! 🙂
Anyway, if this sounds like your kind of product, it’s completely worth it! Chances are you have most of what you need for it anyway, and it takes minutes to make. If you have an old spray bottle you can use, you don’t even need to buy an empty one!
Easy DIY Sea Salt Hair Spray

1 spray bottle (I used the one in this set
8 oz (225g) water
1 tsp sea salt (I used a little more in mine)
1/2 tsp coconut oil
A few drops tea tree oil
(She also says you can add an optional dab of hair gel, but neither she nor I had this to hand, and it seems to have worked fine for us!)
1. Heat your water to help everything dissolve.
2. Add in the rest of the ingredients and stir/whisk to combine.
3. Allow to cool a little, then pour into your spray bottle.
