**Five Minute Friday is an initiative set up by Lisa-Jo Baker over at Surprised by Motherhood. The basic premise is to take the word Lisa-Jo gives and write, non-stop for 5 minutes. Then you stop and post. Read more about it here.

Springtime arrives in a splash of pinks and whites, and I cannot seem to fully capture the beauty of it in my art. Art, creativity, it makes you see things differently. Focus in on the details. See the mystery in the mundane. But somehow it never seems to completely encapsulate the amazing gifts of beauty that God has inscribed in the very soul of creation.
The camera shutter clicks away, the paintbrush flicks across the canvas, and I see the glory of the mountains, the calming hue of the sunset. But I cannot show you the sound of the cuckoo gently calling. I cannot zoom in close enough for you to see the twinkle that I love so much as it hides in the corners of his eyes. I cannot describe the fun of watching a tiny little toddler chasing a ball almost as big as herself, a look of pure delight on her face as her older brother throws it patiently yet another time.
There is beauty everywhere. It hides in the crevices of this world, the details that we cannot quite commit to film or canvas or songs.
We can only reflect the beauty and glory of God. Our art is itself a gift, pointing us to something greater than ourselves. Creativity? Maybe. But I’m not sure that we can create entirely. We can only recreate, reflect, point to something sacred.
He is the Creator. We are made in His image. We reflect His creativity and offer it up to others, hoping that it may just capture the truth of the one who “painted” first. But sometimes, the best way we can do this is simply by basking in it. Resting in it. Praising Him for it.
I put down the paintbrush. I turn off the camera. And I sit. I soak. I breathe.
