Five Minute Friday: Grateful

05/09/14 | Faith

**Five Minute Friday is an initiative set up by Lisa-Jo Baker over at Surprised by Motherhood. The basic premise is to take the word Lisa-Jo gives and write, non-stop for 5 minutes. Then you stop and post. Read more about it here.

Grateful

GO

Often it is so easy to forget just how blessed we are.

In the midst of bereavement, of financial troubles, of loneliness, of all those things that happen to us in our lives, it is easy to get lost and not be able to see the blessings anymore.

I started the #100HappyDays challenge earlier this year in an attempt to remind myself daily of the big and little blessings in my life, ranging from the immense gifts of family and pregnancy, to the little daily gifts of food and sunshine.

FMF - GratefulSome days, it’s been harder than others to really see the blessing in the day, but I’ve come to realize over these last 71 days, that even on those hard days, there is always something.

Even when I am overwhelmed, stressed, exhausted, sick, sad… still there is joy in my life, if only I know where to look for it.

The food on my table. The rent that is paid. The love of my family. The beauty of my surroundings. The lie-ins. The cuddles. The people in my life.

The love of my Saviour.

Because even if I have nothing else, I still have that.

“Remember to extol his work,
    of which mortals have sung.
All people have looked on it;
    everyone watches it from far away.
Surely God is great, and we do not know him;
    the number of his years is unsearchable.
For he draws up the drops of water;
    he distillshis mist in rain,
which the skies pour down
    and drop upon mortals abundantly.
Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds,
    the thunderings of his pavilion?
See, he scatters his lightning around him
    and covers the roots of the sea.
For by these he governs peoples;
    he gives food in abundance.”

— Job 36:24-31

FMF - GratefulI am blessed, that I might bless others. And I am incredibly grateful for that. But above all else, I am grateful for the love and grace of God, which surpasses all earthly treasures.

I am His daughter. His beloved.

What more could I need?

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

— John 3:16
