Five Minute Friday: Create

07/15/16 | Faith

*Five Minute Friday is an initiative set up by Lisa-Jo Baker over at Surprised by Motherhood. It has now been taken over by Kate over at Heading Home. The basic premise is to take the word Kate gives and write, non-stop for 5 minutes. Then you stop and post. Read more about it here.

Create

GO

I love this word. It has meant so so much to me lately. Since reading Emily P. Freeman’s A Million Little Ways a couple of years ago, I have understood the deep longing in my heart to create, to be inspired, to glorify God through creativity.

Our Father created us. He is a Creator. If we are created in his image, then it should not surprise us that we have a desire to be creative, to bring out the beauty, to find the art that surrounds us and is such an intrinsic part of us.

In the “survival mode” that was (and sometimes still is!) having two children under 2, particularly in the newborn phase, I found that if and when I finally got a moment to myself, it was rarely a time I used to create. It was a time to sleep, eat, watch TV, and just try and muster up enough energy to get through the rest of the day.

This is not a bad thing in and of itself, especially in that particular season of my life. But something funny happened when I stopped collapsing and started creating.

I decided to stop procrastinating and putting off a dream I had in my head and actually do something about it.

I created. I created a website, and spent most of my free time on it. And the funny thing that happened was that I found myself more energised.

I thought doing so much would leave me more tired. But it was not the quantity I was doing that was relevant, it seemed. It was the quality. And being creative, being inspired, being excited, that was what gave me energy.

The more I create, the more I am energised, happy, inspired. The more I reflect my Father.

I make sure I make time to create now. I have come, once more, to realise its importance in my life.
