31 Days: Ready

10/10/15 | Faith

*Five Minute Friday is an initiative set up by Lisa-Jo Baker over at Surprised by Motherhood. It has now been taken over by Kate over at Heading Home. The basic premise is to take the word Kate gives and write, non-stop for 5 minutes. Then you stop and post. Read more about it here. This October, I am taking part in a series based on this called “31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes”, in which we commit to writing from the prompt as usual, but everyday rather than just on a Friday. Read more here.

Ready

GO

What are your dreams? Your hopes? Your desires? Your gifts?

How often do you think on them, long for them, wish they would fall into place for you?

Now, how often do you do something about them?

Not every dream will come true. Some plans are simply not meant to be. But some are achievable, some are true callings.

Occasionally, God blesses us with the easy way. It’s rare, but it happens. If something is right, in it’s right moment, ripe for the picking, God sets it in front of us and we grab it eagerly with both hands (or, sometimes, back away slowly and need a little push towards it!).

But a lot of the time, He asks us to meet Him somewhere in the middle. He asks for our active participation, for us to do our bit. He repeatedly promised Israel victory over other nations, but they still needed to go to the fight!

Sometimes, you need to take the first step in order to find out whether something is right for you or not. And it’s scary, because you may fail. But then again, you may not.

I cannot possibly tell you how many jobs I applied for when I left university before finding one that was right for me. The right one ended up being one I didn’t even have to fill in an application for, but I did have to make contact with them and meet with them and take some steps out in faith to get there.

31 Days - ReadyI believe I have a gift for writing. I wouldn’t dream of saying I am a great talent, the likes of C S Lewis or Jostein Gaarder, but I do think it is something I am good at, that I love, that I long to do.

I spent a long time planning this blog, but in the end, the only way it came to be was by simply taking the first step one day and registering a domain name, doing some simple editing, and writing my first post. I realised it wasn’t going to just happen. I needed to make it happen.

So, those dreams you hold at the back of your mind, the ones you long for, believe in, and pray for so so often? Why not take a little step closer to them today? Fill out an application, start a blog, request a prospectus, start writing that album, buy an easel, ring your dream company. Whatever that first step is, stop putting it off, take it today.

It’s your turn.

Ready?

Go.
