31 Days: Laugh

10/15/15 | Family

*Five Minute Friday is an initiative set up by Lisa-Jo Baker over at Surprised by Motherhood. It has now been taken over by Kate over at Heading Home. The basic premise is to take the word Kate gives and write, non-stop for 5 minutes. Then you stop and post. Read more about it here. This October, I am taking part in a series based on this called “31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes”, in which we commit to writing from the prompt as usual, but everyday rather than just on a Friday. Laugh

GO

I’ve heard that laughter is the best medicine. I’m sure we’ve all heard that saying before. More recently I was told that if you can laugh during labour it can make things easier and help you to progress better – it’s part of why funny DVDs are recommended to have on hand in early labour.

I can believe that. Mostly because there really is something truly relaxing about laughter. It releases good hormones, relaxes your muscles, and puts you at ease.

And yet it’s often the last thing we feel like doing when things are rough, when times are stressful.

But perhaps it should be one of the first things we go to.

31 Days - LaughIf you are in the midst of difficult times, if you are stressed or struggling, maybe this weekend it should be your mission to do at least one thing that makes you laugh. Spending time with friends, watching a funny film or comedian, reading a hilarious book, or just trying to ‘fake laugh’ until you realise it’s become a real one.

Whatever it is, make some time to laugh, to allow joy into your life, this week. It might do more good than you think…
